Here is short video of a one of my son’s piano concert at Christmas time. I used a flip camera to record this video and uploaded it to YouTube.

The following is a screencast describing instructions on how to link to TED Talk resources in an online course. This video was part of a larger tutorial I created for the faculty with whom I work.  I used Camtasia Studio to produce and edit this video. The entire tutorial is in Viddler.

Involving and Communicating with Parents

Teachers are always finding ways to involve parents to keep them informed and letting them provide input. I have seen teachers have their own Web pages to post announcements. I have also seen teachers create wikis to post some relevant information to parents. I have found this Guide to Involving Parents in a Class Blog a good example of how to communicate with parents.

Editing Movies with Windows Movie Maker

You can create quick movies using Windows Movie Maker. if you have a digital camera, you can tape short video clips and upload the to Window Movie Maker. You could also upload pictures and crate a slide show with transtions and video effects. ou could also add audio if you would like to incorporate a narration of each slide and create a story.

The Flipped Classroom Approach

A few faculty and I are testing if the flipped classroom approach canenhance learning. Instructors teach one class section using the traditional approach and the other section using the flipped classroom approach. One of the instructors tested those classes last Fall and she found significantly higher levels of student engagement.

Initial Thoughts about how the Read/Write Web is affecting Teaching and Learning

I am fascinated to see the ways Web tools are rapidly evolving, allowing to create learning activities that facilitate active learning, collaboration, and critical and creative thinking. Before the Web 2.0, there was the Web 1.0, which allowed for a more passive approach to teaching and learning. Teachers and students were passive consumers of information, and if they wanted to change something, they had to contact the Website administrator and wait for changes to occur.

Web 2.0 tools allow for a more creative and active approach. Teachers and students can not only acquire information, but also create and share it. This type of tools can be accessed anytime and from anywhere, allowing for more flexibility and mobility.

I think that the Read/Write Web will continue to make a great impact in the way I teach and relate to my students and colleagues.  I also believe that when the Web 3.0 becomes more accessible will affect the way we teach and learn even more. Designing virtual learning environments that simulate real life situations and allow students to be play active and different roles in those situations will be more possible with Web 3.0 tools.
